Junior Skills Assessment
Wet Weather
If the grounds are closed, the Skills Assessment session scheduled will be re-arranged. Please check the Mosman Council wet weather line on 9978 4136 before you attend.
U9 Update (21 FEB)
A big thank you to all the parents who helped us run the U9 metrics session by volunteering to record the times and distances, organised the assessment or ran the BBQ. It looked like all the boys and girls had fun too! The game sessions were a challenge, but helped our coaches see the boys & girls playing together.
We will now have 8 U9 teams this season : Cheetahs, Jaguars, Leopards, Lions, Lynx, Panthers, Pumas and Tigers. All U9 players who have registered should receive an email with their team by 22nd February. There is room for a few more players in these teams, so further U9 registrations are still possible.
We will also contact parents who kindly volunteered to be the manager or coach of these teams, so we can start pre-season training by early March.
U10 - U14 Update
For U10s and U11s, we will hold gameplay on the 28th February and select the teams later that afternoon. There will be several short, small sided games and the players will be shuffled after every one. The coaches will be looking for individual skills, tactical awareness and team playing abilities.
For U12 -U14, we will not hold gameplay sessions. The teams will now train together and be split into teams by the team coaches.

W10 - W16 Update
We are looking for a few more W10 players (for games played on Sunday mornings). Girls playing in the mixed U9 can dual register for these teams.
Denise Menzies, VP Junior Ladies
Purpose:
The goals of the Skills Assessment process are to:
- Provide an objective assessment of each junior player's current athletic performance, football skills and potential
- Form junior teams with players of similar ability
- Place each team in the appropriate division given their skill level (though the MWFA makes the final call on this)
Process:
The process we have adopted is a well tested two step system which has proved to be fun for the players and effective in gathering the information the club needs to identify individual skills and to assess team division placement. There are 2 steps:
- Metrics. We will measure skills, strength, speed and agility with 6 different football-related exercises.
- Gameplay. We will organise small sided games which are assessed by independent coaches to check the extent the athletic potential is translated onto the football field.
Please come to these sessions prepared to play football in a shirt, shorts, shinpads, socks and boots.
More information on skills assessment is posted here.
Location and Timing:
Metrics were at Middle Head Oval on 14th February.
Gameplay will be at Georges Heights Oval on 21st and 28th February:

Game play will be by age group, so the sessions are not interchangable. If you are unable to attend a gameplay session, we will make an initial team allocation based on metrics, but may change this during pre-season training.
Next Steps:
Once we have completed the assessment session, we will aim to form teams by early March. In some cases, the team coaches may run pre-season training together (eg 10/1 and 10/2) before making the final call on the team composition, and the recommended division the team should be placed in.
